Following through on the post title - When, how and why did it become so easy and a very simple thing to charge 1L as deposit for rental spaces?

I mean - if I'm renting out a place that costs close to 30k, that means I can, I got it. 2 months rent is ok, but 1L?

Its almost always just cost offsetting for the owner for something he may have borne. But for the one renting the place, it's 1L out of the pocket - you can neither earn interest on it, or put it into an investment to have it grow.

If anything - maybe workout the contracts better to ensure the the one renting the place would actually be responsible that might happen. But such a hefty deposit, idk man.
