Before you meet
Safety, brokers, and what we don't do.
No brokerage
Stoop is a notice board. We don't take a cut of rent, deposits, or “token” money. If someone asks for a broker fee to show you a home listed here, walk away and report the listing (report sits at the bottom of every home).
Meet like a neighbour
- Prefer daytime visits; tell someone where you're going.
- Don't transfer deposits to an unknown UPI before seeing the keys.
- Ask for the owner's ID / society letter if anything feels off.
- WhatsApp and email stay behind sign-in so the board isn't a harvest list.
What stoop is not
- Not an escrow, escrow agent, or payment processor.
- Not a KYC / Aadhaar verifier (yet). “Account 7+ days” only means the poster's login is older than a week.
- Not a party to your lease. Agreements stay between you and them.
- Not a chat product — we pass notes and visit requests, then get out of the way.
Reporting
Spam, broker fronts, stolen photos, already-rented homes — use Report on the listing. We soft-hide quiet listings after two weeks without a bump so ghosts don't clog the board.
Rate limits
New accounts can post a few listings and messages per day. That keeps scrapers and blast brokers from flooding the board.
Read the home. Meet at the gate. Skip the office.
